I bought myself a new cell phone for Christmas, only to discover that it doesn't fit very well into the case that I carried my old cell phone in. I went to the Virgin Mobile kiosk in Tillicum Mall because it is a Virgin phone, but they had only a hard plastic shell that doesn't cover the screen and that also doesn't seem to stay on the phone very well. Ideally I'd prefer a case that covers the screen so that it doesn't get scratched when it's in my purse.

Zellers and London Drugs seem to have only camera cases that are a bit too big and bulky for my needs. Source/Circuit City didn't seem to have any even though that was where I got my last case (unless it was still Radio Shack then.) Any other suggestions of places to look?

..so i was a moron and left this to the very last moment possible since we aren't exchanging gifts again this year so i wasn't really thinking about christmas...but i need four christmas cards! i went to shoppers and got one for my mom/step-dad but all the other cards were for daughters/sons/really really young kids/gift cards.

has anyone hit the hallmark in hillside in the last day or two? is there a selection left or is it pretty much bare?

any recommendations on where a gal can go and get some non-religious christmas cards?

...next year i'm going to make a mental note to go earlier.

Thanks!!

If you haven't checked out Found Cameras and Orphan Pictures, it's a pretty nifty site.

Saw this posting for a camera found on Canada Day night: http://ifoundyourcamera.blogspot.com/2009/10/camera-found-victoria-british-columbia.html

Anybody know these kids, and able to help return camera to owner??

Cheers,
Jenna

So I've been renting on my own/with friends since I was 18 and I've filled out a lot of applications since then..but this is the weirdest one I have ever been asked to fill out.

Not only is he asking for a deposit for the application(which if he accepts will be put to the rent or returned if he rejects us but if we back out..he keeps as a "service charge"...), he's asking for the name/address of my bank, credit reference(no idea what they would be anyways..), my SIN #, my driver's license...

Is any of this normal? I've filled out applications with property management company's and just regular joe's renting their lower suite..but never been asked to give them any of the above. In regards to driving, they only ask about my make/model not my driver's license number..

The hype has been around for a while but I have finally caught up with the dvd of Colin - the zombie movie allegedly made for £45.
Colin has two major claims to fame. The first, as I stated is that it was made for only £45. I think this may have been a bit of a stretch. Even if everybody involved game their time for free and you dont count the cost of the camera, editing equipment or any other factors which would cost money if you had to buy from scratch, £45 is still a little hard to believe. I dont mean that to be a criticism of the film - its very good - I just doubt the figure they claim as total costs. The fact is that if they spent £4,500 making this film that would still be a massive achievement as it really does hold its own as a feature film and the makers should be proud of it whatever the costs.
The second claim to fame for Colin is probably more interesting. It has been proclaimed as the first film told from the zombie perspective. On a technicality, "I, Zombie" was a film which did this some years before but that had a very different premise as it featured an articulate man who had been infected slowly deterioration into zombie-ness. Colin by Comparison takes a man who rapidly descends into Romero style zombie-ness, and then continues his story. As far as I know it is the first film to do this and it does it very well.
The fact is this home-made film is really very good. It has a tight story and characters you empathise with and there is a good proportion of Hollywood output that cant boast that.

This week I have been mostly reading: The Samurai Film by Alain Silver

Has anyone seen a non-TiVo hard-drive digital video recorder in town? Before TiVo was available in Canada I bought an LG brand digital video recorder at Future Shop, but the DVD recorder part of it (it has both a hard drive and a DVD drive) failed, and I thought maybe I'd get myself a new one for Christmas. However, looking at the websites for Future Shop and Best Buy, it appears that they have only TiVo and some cable-company-specific DVRs alongside the DVD recorders.

In your Christmas shopping travels, have any of you come across any handpainted wine glasses? I'm looking for something along these lines:

http://www.janetpaintsonglass.com/images/wine%20glasses/Fun%20Fish%20Wine%20Glass.jpg

http://static.squidoo.com/resize/squidoo_images/-1/lens4075952_1239888517artisan-wine-glass.jpg

http://www.frogorange.co.uk/store/images/momo_panache_my_favourite_wine_glass.jpg

I don't need a set, just ones sold individually are fine. My procrastination as obviously made shopping online not an option, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea where to even start looking!

I'm on the hunt for new books to read and having read through Max Brooks, David Wellington, the Permuted Press collection and some of Coscom Entertainment's selections I'm trying out other publishers.

Has anyone read The Changed by B.J. Burrow? It is published by Apex.

Just wondering where I need to go to shop for casual skirts and dresses? Everywhere I go has none or they are very 'dressy'. Also wanna find leg warmers too, not sure where to start here either.

This week I have been mostly reading: Dying To Live (a novel of life among the undead) by Kim Paffenroth

This is one of the best zombie novels Ive read in a long time. It starts off in a fairly standard post-outbreak world where Romero model zombies are doing their apocalyptic thang but it very quickly develops the main characters and sends them to some of the darkest places Ive seen explored in zombie (or any) fiction. I had only moderate expectations for this book but I was pleased and surprised to find that its a real page turner.

so my parents are coming here to spend xmas and one of our favourite traditions is to drive around town and look at the christmas lights. back home i had no problem knowing the best routes/neighbourhoods to look through, but seeing as this is my first winter here i have no idea where to take them!

is there any lists or anything that have addresses of well decorated homes? i heard they post it in the newspaper but i've been checking and have yet to find anything. or suggest neighbourhoods to check out. thanks!

Hello all! I have never posted here before but have been watching for a year or so. Currently I am writing my final paper for school on the likelihood of a zombie apocalypse and general zombie survival. I need to get opinions from real, preferably not undead, people on the subject and I thought: Who better to ask than [info]zombie_survival ? I realize here we all believe in the imminent threat of Zed, but when will he come for us?
